Specific Advantages of ZirChrom-PBD Columns:

ZirChrom®-PBD vs. C-18 Silica

ZirChrom®-PBD offers an ultra-stable reversed-phase alternative to a C-18 silica phase. ZirChrom®-PBD is a conventional reversed-phase support with the selectivity and column efficiency of C-18, allowing for easy method transfer.  ZirChrom®-PBD is vastly more stable than any silica phase—both chemically and thermally (pH 1-14, up to 200°C).  Additionally, ZirChrom®-PBD is far superior to C-18 for the separation of basic compounds.  Consider using ZirChrom®-PBD with a phosphate buffer if either the tailing of amines or their selectivities is problematic on C-18.  More importantly, you can explore the full pH range (pH 1-14) to optimize your separation and not be limited to the narrow range of pH 3-7 or pH 2-8 of most silica-based phases.

ZirChrom®-PBD vs. Polymers

ZirChrom®-PBD offers a superior reversed-phase alternative to a polymer (PRP) phase. ZirChrom®-PBD possesses all of the advantages of PRP with none of the drawbacks.  Like PRP, ZirChrom®-PBD offers extreme chemical and thermal stability (pH 1-14, up to 200°C).  Unlike PRP, ZirChrom®-PBD possesses superior efficiency, is highly reproducible, exhibits selectivity similar to C-18 silica for easier method development, and offers extraordinary solvent stability.  Monodisperse 3 micron ZirChrom®-PBD particles exhibit the same or less back pressure as most 5 micron PRP phases.  This allows ZirChrom®-PBD columns to be scaled up in the same manner as PRP and C-18 silica columns for semi-preparative scale applications.
